Energy Marketing and Trading

HomeAbout UsWhat We DoEnergy Marketing and Trading

Centrica’s Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) business operates in UK and European energy markets, trading in energy produced both inside and outside the business.

The business is the trading arm of Centrica, trading gas, power and related commodities, and provides the route to market for our upstream and power generation operations.  EM&T also sources electricity and gas for British Gas customers

Liquified Natural Gas

The gas market is becoming increasingly global. We are diversifying our sources of gas, and an area of focus for the business in recent years has been to grow our presence in LNG imports.

Shipping LNG – where the gas is cooled to minus 161 degrees Celsius to liquid form, at 1/600 of its original volume for ease of transport – is an increasingly important part of how Centrica is working to secure the UK's energy needs.

Power Purchase Agreements

Our Marketing and Trading business is well placed in the market as a counterparty for offtake agreements. PPAs are provided for any type of conventional or renewable power asset located in Great Britain, working across a wide spectrum of technologies including:

  • Onshore Wind
  • Offshore Wind
  • Biomass
  • Solar
  • Energy from Waste
  • Marine
  • Conventional Thermal
