Centrica Energy has the Exploration and Production apprenticeship programme and power generation programme. Centrica Energy is committed to identifying potential, providing development and career opportunities, and empowering you to make a difference in our business. We’ll support you with ongoing general and specialist training, accessible learning and personal skills development and a chance to gain professional qualifications.
The Exploration and Production apprenticeship programme provides the exciting opportunity to combine further education at Furness College with on the job training working alongside experienced technicians at Barrow Terminals.
The power generation programme has control and instrumentation, mechanical and electrical disciplines and is a four year programme. On successful completion of the scheme you will have the skills and qualifications to apply for development role as a maintenance technician or a specialist role either onshore or offshore.
As British Gas we are one of the UK’s largest apprenticeship providers and employers of gas engineers we are securing skills to serve our customers for today and tomorrow. Across the UK, British Gas' network of excellent engineering academies provides award winning training to our apprentices and engineers with the latest technical skills to install boilers, smart meters and energy efficiency products. All this plus the van, tools and uniform are provided!

The information systems (IS) apprenticeship programme is a two year programme incorporating blended learning. This means you'll complete formal training, engage in self-learning and also learn on the job from our industry experts. A fantastic chance to get a head start in your career giving you skills you simply cannot get in a classroom environment. Information systems within the energy sector is an exciting place to be. The use of energy within homes and businesses in the UK is set to change beyond recognition over the next few years and British Gas will be a driving force. Our IS apprentices could help to define the systems of the future, whether it’s enabling our customers to save energy, improving efficiency within our internal operations or ensuring the services we provide are enjoyed by all of our customers.

Looking to do your best you’ll “earn while you learn” and be responsible for resolving a range of enquiries from our residential customers politely and efficiently. You’ll take ownership of each call, getting to the heart of the query, deciding the best course of action and providing the kind of service that earns our customers’ trust. Our customer service apprenticeship is a Level 2 customer service practitioner apprenticeship.
In North America, Direct Energy is training their own heating and air conditioning technicians to help address the national skills shortage for energy-related technicians.
