Starting salary: £27,000 plus £3,000 starting bonus

What does it involve?

Is British Gas delivering what people need? What should our message be to customers in homes and businesses throughout Britain? How can we ensure we continue to do the right thing with so much change impacting the energy sector and the markets we operate in?

These are just some of the questions you could be answering as a commercial marketing graduate.

Over four placements, you’ll learn the ins and outs of how to market British Gas products and brands. Along the way, you’ll be able to build key commercial marketing skills while gaining experience of developing strategies and project plans.

There are various teams you could potentially be joining, including our Commercial, Brand, Product Development, Customer Marketing, Advertising, Sales and Digital Advertising teams. Your responsibilities could range all the way from gathering customer insight to developing material for TV and social media campaigns.

Placement 1

The programme kicks off with a three-month stint in one of our customer contract centres. Here you’ll experience what life is like on the frontline of a brand such as British Gas, Dyno or Hive. It’s a chance for you to gain your first real understanding of the customers at the heart of our business.

Placement 2, 3, 4

For your next three placements, you’ll be working in commercial marketing roles, contributing to high-level projects across our business. This will enable you to enhance your commercial and business awareness, and continue developing your leadership and business management skills.

We need commercial and marketing professionals of the highest calibre to help us continue to stand out as an organisation. Do you have the potential to become one? You’ll definitely need to be someone who enjoys a challenge. This scheme frequently pushes you outside your comfort zone and requires you to solve problems and show initiative every step of the way. Customer focus is also very important, especially if you can combine it with a good understanding of how to deliver commercial value.

The marketing graduate scheme is truly an amazing and unique place to be. You'll get great exposure to one of the UK's biggest and best known brands across areas such as PR, digital marketing and corporate social responsibility. You will also have the opportunity to own and shape projects which make a real difference to millions of our customers as well as our environment.
