Training & development

As a graduate, you will be fully supported to develop the core skills that will enable you to thrive in our changing and challenging environment.

The Centrica graduate programme offers exciting and challenging opportunities and responsibilities that will stretch and develop you to help you reach your potential.

At Centrica, we adopt a 'blended learning' approach. Most of your development will be on the job as you rotate through your placements. This will be supplemented by self-driven learning. Your programme is made up of a core development programme, focussing on self awareness and followership in the first year, and drive and leadership in the second. You will also supplement your core development with technical training, which may involve professional.

Your development within Centrica begins before you've even joined. As a graduate, you'll be invited to the company headquarters for a pre-induction day. Here, you'll learn more about Centrica and meet other graduates.

The main company induction in October will give you a more in-depth insight into Centrica as an organisation and the stream you are joining, as well as giving you the skills and knowledge you need to hit the ground running on your first day in role.

Throughout the graduate programme, you will be required to develop self-awareness, accountability and an understanding of the need to drive your own progression. You will also be expected to get involved in 'off role' activities to broaden your development. For example, by facilitating assessment centres. Or, by working on projects for charities, you will be exposed to a full range of skills such as coaching techniques, collaboration and influencing. Feedback will be provided every step of the way.

A structured support network is in place to aid your progression:

  • Your line manager will support you day to day, ensuring that you have stretching objectives and providing you with every opportunity to develop your technical skills and business awareness. Your manager will conduct regular reviews to reflect on your performance and identify development opportunities for you.
  • Your stream-specific graduate talent manager will provide ongoing support, advice on suitable rotational placements and help manage your stream-specific training.
  • A dedicated talent board will provide leadership and direction to your graduate stream.
  • A highly trained career mentor will help you understand what it means to be a high performer and how to achieve this.

All this means you'll have the support structure in place to ensure that you make the most of this exceptional opportunity
